TESTING ROUND UP

Matty continued his 2014 preparations this week as he joined the Formula Renault Northern European Cup teams and drivers at the legendary Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands last week.

Running again with the AV Formula team, Matty took part in two days running split into eight different sessions around the 2.8 mile long track and impressed with his performances in the FR2.0/13 car.

During a solid Thursday, Matty consistently found himself in the top five and reducing his time deficit to the drivers in front of him. By the end of the day, he found himself only six hundredths of a second off the top spot.

A 120mph accident at the start of Friday morning’s first session threatened to derail the young North Easterner’s progress, however, after a steady second session, Matty’s confidence was restored enough to see him run a very impressive afternoon.

Throughout the course of the day’s third session, Matty built up his speed across his eighteen completed laps, emerging fastest of all after posting a 1:35.680 lap on his final run.

In the final segment on Friday afternoon, Matty continued to turn up the wick and set his fastest time of the test, and the third fastest lap overall on his way to second, only five hundredths of a second of the top of the chart.
