MATTY MAKES MOST OF EXTRA PRACTICE

Spa Preview

Matty heads into Saturday’s Formula Renault 2.0 NEC qualifying sessions and first race in a confident mind set after an extremely positive opening two days at the Most Autodrom in the Czech Republic.

The 18 year old enjoyed a productive four hours of testing on Thursday, where he was firmly among the pace setters, as he worked through a testing programme with his AV Formula team to establish a good base line set up for the weekend’s competitive action.

The extra day of running also allowed Matty and the team to work on improving their performance on new tyres, with the inability to extract the maximum from the car on new Michelin rubber having been an Achilles heel throughout the year.

Feeling comfortable with his car at the end of the day, Matty’s work benefitted the whole team in Friday practice as the data from his setup and car allowed the team to bring on three of their other entries to fill four of the top six places in the opening session.

Further improvements to his lap times saw him end the day seventh, only half a second of the fastest time, leaving Matty hopeful of a very competitive Saturday.

“It’s been a really good couple of days here and we’ve got a car that feels good on both new and old tyres so I’m hoping we can do well this weekend.”

“Thursday was really useful as it gave me the chance to test new tyres which we just haven’t been able to get the most out of this year, so hopefully with that data we can get a good grid spot in qualifying and then kick on in the race.”
