FORMULA RENAULT EUROCUP – MOTORLAND ROUND UP

Worldseries by Renault 2014

Matty completed his first race meeting of the season with two points in the bag after taking 10th place in races two and three at the Motorland Aragon circuit in the Forumla Renault Eurocup.

The weekend started well on Friday morning, when Matty was sixth fastest on his first session in a Tatuus FR2.0/13 for six months, but after unexpectedly dropping to eleventh in the second session, it was discovered that the engine in his race car was underperforming along the circuits straights.

Initially believed to be a problem with blocked air filters, the issues remained into Saturday’s qualifying session and races necessitating a change of engine overnight.

Despite being compromised in performance, Matty still managed to take a point from the second race after a post-race penalty for Lasse Sorenson for overtaking under yellow flags.

With a better performing car, an inability to find a clear lap when track conditions were at their best in a damp qualifying session restricted Matty to eleventh on the grid, before he once again fell victim of over ambitious moves from drivers around him.

Without those setbacks, the 2013 BRDC F4 Winter Champion would have found himself around sixth with series leader Louis Deletraz but instead had to settle for tenth.
