MATTY ADDS GT4 EUROPEAN SERIES RACE TO 2017 PROGRAMME

Story

Matty will sample his first taste of the GT4 European Series this weekend (May 6 & 7) after agreeing a deal to race with Dutch team Equipe Verschuur at the Northern Cup meeting at Brands Hatch.

Driving the same car as he currently races with In2Racing in the British championship, a McLaren 570S GT4, Matty will partner with Hungarian driver Csaba Mor in two, one hour races around the 2.4 mile Grand Prix layout.

A highly respected team in European motorsport, Equipe Verschuur has been operating since 1978 and have seen a number of world class drivers compete with them, including former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and sportscar ace Jeroen Bleekemolen.

Boasting an enviable racing pedigree, including an LMP2 class win at the Le Mans 24 hours in 2008, the 2017 GT4 European Series sees the squad enter a pair of McLaren’s latest racer, with the team looking to build on a solid opening round of the year at Misano in Italy at the start of April.

Joining Equipe Verschuur in addition to his British GT campaign, Matty will be looking not only to help the team secure a good result, but to further enhance his experience and understanding of Woking’s latest thoroughbred.

Speaking about his inclusion in this weekend’s meeting, Matty said: “It’s a nice surprise to be racing with Equipe Verschuue this weekend and I’m looking forward to getting more miles in a McLaren and racing in a quality field.

“Csaba is a high calibre driver and he did very well at the first round in Misano, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do at Brands.

“The McLaren is an excellent car and I’m learning more about getting the most from it the more time I spend at the wheel, so to be out as part of this team is going to be a very beneficial experience.”

The GT4 European Series action gets underway on Saturday, with two practice sessions and qualifying, with two hour long races taking place on Sunday.

The green flag waves at 10:15 BST for the day’s first race and at 14:25 for the second with both events broadcast live via gt4series.com/live or the series YouTube channel.
